Words of Love
FOR ELVIS
8.1.1935 - FOREVER
by Lorraine Benison
I tried to write a poem
about how much you mean to me.
But the words they won't come easy
although my love, it flows so free
I want so much to tell you
although I know you cannot hear,
of all the joy you've brought
me throughout so many years.
The words I'm looking for
are just so very hard to find.
How can words express
what I'm feeling at this time?
I don't know where to start
or indeed know what to say
So I'll tell you
THANK YOU ELVIS
for what you bring to me each day!
The Streets of Memphis
by Sheila Dauphin
They walked the streets of Memphis
And heard Elvis call their names,
They touched the wall at Graceland
And he said I’m glad ya’ll came.
I’ve waited a long time,
Now ya’ll are finally here.
Your visit’s really special,
I love this time of year.
I watched you today in Tupelo,
I cried with you in the rain,
I laughed with you on my porch,
I felt like singing again.
Please come to the house tomorrow,
I’ll have someone take care of you,
I promise nothing will go wrong,
Just take your time going through.
Don’t let the unknowing crowds upset you,
They can’t feel the connection as you do.
I always recognized my true fans
And people who really cared for me.
So absorb the atmosphere of the place I Love,
And I’ll tell you other sights to see.
He sent us over to Beale Street,
E.P.’s is where we ate.
We strolled Beale’s sidewalks as he once did,
Then we returned to Graceland’s gates.
And then as we were leaving
He gave us a gift so rare,
The power to hear and feel the music,
So special we carry it everywhere.
They walked the streets of Memphis
And heard Elvis call their names,
They touched the wall at Graceland,
And he said I’m glad ya’ll came.
